Die Harzer Wälder sind leider nicht von den Witterungsextremen der letzten Jahre verschont geblieben. Dabei sind viele Waldflächen im Landkreis Harz besonders stark von dem folgenden Borkenkäferbefall, begünstigt durch Trockenheit und Hitze, betroffen.
Im Rahmen des Waldspendeprojekts als Gemeinschaftsaktion bestehend aus dem Krisenstab Wald des Landkreises Harz sowie der Harzer Wandernadel und dem Harzer Tourismusverband, konnten bereits 2 Waldflächen erfolgreich wiederaufgeforstet werden.
Waldspendeprojekt an der Plessenburg
Das erste Waldspendeprojekt in der Nähe der beliebten Waldgaststätte Plessenburg fand im Rahmen einer Crowdfunding Aktion über das Portal 99Funken statt. Während des 3monatigen Spendenzeitraums von November 2021 bis Februar 2022 konnte die benötigte Summe von 22.500€ gesammelt werden, sodass die 1,5 Hektar große Fläche erst beräumt und im Mai 2022 mit über 5.500 Setzlingen aus Traubeneichen, Bergahorn, Roterlen und weiteren Baumarten wiederaufgeforstet werden konnte. Eine
Umzäunung soll die Setzlinge abschließend gegen Wildverbiss schützen.

Forest donation project at the Königshütte dam
The 6.5‑hectare area is located at the Königshütte dam and borders the southern shore of the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg trail with the Harzer Wandernadel stamping station 42. With the help of a generous donor from the local economy, the professional and site-appropriate reforestation
into a mixed hardwood forest took place in spring 2023. After clearing the area, reforestation was carried out with sycamore maple, European larch, bird cherry, hazel and small-leaved lime.

Planned forest donation project on the Stump Ridge in Ilsenburg
The one-hectare area is located above the well-known „Ilsestein“ in the municipal forest of the town of Ilsenburg. The area offers a beautiful view of the Harz foreland. The spruce stand was severely weakened by the drought of recent years, infested by the bark beetle and caused to die. The damaged wood was harvested at the end of 2022. The area is now being prepared for replanting
. The plan is to plant 4,000 red oaks, 2,000 sessile oaks, 1,000
winter lime trees, as well as some sweet chestnuts and weeping cherries. Due to the high wildlife population, the area will then be fenced off.

Further municipal forest areas, which are publicly accessible to all, are to follow successively, so that the towns and municipalities in the Harz district are supported in reforestation by the forest donation project.
