Punching point 181 / Forest ranger Tannen

The „Forstmeister Tannen“ arboretum is located on the edge of Ballenstedt Castle Park above the Glockenteich pond.

In 1766, a forest plantation with foreign trees and shrubs was established on this site, selected by Chief Forester von Truff. In March 1767, Prince Friedrich Albrecht ordered a box of seeds from North America via English traders. The mighty Weymouth pines in the arboretum come from these provenances and are among the oldest of their kind in Germany.

Until the middle of the 19th century, the Tietz dynasty of foresters continued to look after the forest. The addition of Tyrolean larch in 1810 took place during this period.

As early as the beginning of the 20th century, the Forstmeister fir trees were considered a masterpiece of silviculture and formed a worthy setting for the burial place of the highest-ranking forestry official in the state of Anhalt, Chief Forestry Councillor Franz-Wilhelm Sachtler (1865 – 1924).

You can reach the stamping station from the parking lot below the castle via the Amtmannsweg in the castle park. Pass the castle pond and the bell pond and follow the signposted path to the right of the Amtmannsweg to the stamping station.
