Punching station 53 / Hassel dam

The Hassel reservoir (385 m above sea level) is located between Hasselfelde and Trautenstein.

Just like the Rappbode pre-dam below the HWN 52 supporting castle, the Hassel pre-dam is a pre-dam of the Rappbode dam. The two pre-dams serve to pre-clean the water of debris and turbidity. The water is dammed up in the pre-dams and then flows through the overflows into the main dam. In this way, the pre-dams also prevent the river valleys from drying out.

The most convenient starting point for a 6 km hike around the Hassel reservoir is the hiking parking lot below the Hagenmühle. The stamp box is located on the right-hand side of the dam wall.
