The Elfenstein is a rock formation on the outskirts of Bad Harzburg in the so-called Elfenecke above the fairytale-like Café Winuwuk building.
The imposing granite rock can be climbed via steps carved into the rock and offers a beautiful view of Bad Harzburg and the Harz foreland.
People in the Middle Ages saw this rock as the home of elves or other beings of light. Elves, elves or even alves also played a major role in the witch trials of the Middle Ages.
A good starting point is Café Winuwuk with its bold, unconventional architecture. From there, take the forest road and turn left along the „Am Elfenstein“ road onto hiking trail 50 C, which leads steeply up to the Elfenstein.
