As early as 1890, an approx. 8 m high wooden observation tower was built on the summit. After several accidents and damage caused by lightning, the members of the Bad Lauterberg branch of the Harzklub decided to build a new stone lookout tower, which was inaugurated in August 1904.
Even before the Second World War, there is said to have been a restaurant at the lookout tower. From 1949, the „Knollerich“ – as the first Bauden landlord Fritz Goericke was known for his jokes – took over the management and rebuilt the Baude. In 1961, the tower was raised to 20 meters. In good weather, hikers can enjoy a magnificent view as far as the Weser Uplands and the Thuringian Forest.
