The ski memorial (665 m above sea level) near the Eckertalsperre reservoir was erected in 1921 by the Braunschweig ski club for the sports enthusiasts who died in the First World War.
The Pioneer Trail leads along the west bank of the Eckertalsperre HWN 1 dam, which is particularly varied and scenic, until a signposted, stony path turns off to the Skidenkmal.
