Stamp point 206 / Hahnestein

The Hahnestein is located in Hohegeiß between the „Bechlerstein“ hiking parking lot and the Hinterer Ebersberg (686 m above sea level).

The memorial stone commemorates the Hohegeiß forest worker Wilhelm Hahne (1865 – 1952). He started working as a lumberjack at the age of 15, did not want to know about his well-earned retirement at the age of 65 and worked in the forest until he was 85. In recognition of his 70 years of work, the forestry office had a memorial stone erected for him in 1951, the unveiling of which the honored man was able to witness in person.

A good starting point is the „Bechlerstein“ forest parking lot and barbecue area. A memorial stone there commemorates the district pensioner Hermann Bechler from Blankenburg, who lost his bearings in a snowstorm on the footpath to Zorge in 1886 and froze to death here.
