At 506 m above sea level, the Galgenberg is the highest elevation of a limestone cliff to the east of Elbingerode.

The Galgenberg has been a place of justice for Elbingerode since time immemorial. From the 16th century onwards, it was the site of the Elbingerode gallows.
A good starting point is the parking lot in the center of Elbingerode, from where you can hike along the Steinweg towards the stamp site. The local Harzklub branch has well signposted the path to Galgenberg. It is a good idea to continue the hike to the Felswerke HWN 39 open-cast mine on the way back.
