The Poppenberg with the observation tower (601) built by the Harzklub in 1897 is located between Ilfeld and the Hufhaus.
Once you have climbed the 177 steps to the viewing platform, you are rewarded with a fantastic panoramic view of the Kyffhäuser, Ravensberg, Wurmberg and Brocken. After the tower had to be closed in the 1980s due to severe corrosion damage, the Harzklub succeeded in renovating the tower in 1992 with donations.
A beautiful hiking trail leads from Ilfeld via the weather vane HWN 95 to the summit of the Poppenberg.
