It was intended to commemorate a carefree stay of young noblemen in September 1845. One of them was a Prince of Hohenlohe-Oeringen, in whose foundry the exhibit was cast. The monument is popularly referred to as an engagement urn, as there was speculation about the reason for its erection.

From Alexisbad, you can reach the engagement urn from the center of the village via the signposted hiking trail and continue the tour via the cliff path to the Köthener Hütte HWN 195.
