On a clear day, you can see as far as the Weser Uplands from here. The source of the Tränkebach stream is located next to the hut.

Just like the Mandolinenhütte HWN 142, the Tränkebachhütte is located on the Steinway Trail, which leads from Wolfshagen to Seesen.

Heinrich Engelhard Steinweg (1797–1871) was born in Wolfshagen in the Harz Mountains. He came to Seesen in 1825 to work as a master carpenter. Here, the musically talented Heinrich Engelhard initially repaired table pianos and musical instruments on the side until he established himself as an instrument maker in 1836. He specialized in the construction of upright and grand pianos and gained a reputation. In 1850, the family emigrated to New York. With their acquired knowledge of piano making, they founded the internationally renowned company Steinway & Sons there in 1853. The Steinweg family, later Steinway, always maintained contact with their home in the Harz Mountains and came to visit again and again. Numerous traces of the family can still be found in Wolfshagen and Seesen today.

Follow the route that Heinrich is said to have taken to his beloved in Seesen and find out more about the Steinways« success story!

Good starting points for a hike to the Tränkebachhütte are the Sternplatz parking lot or the Neckelnberg parking lot. Both are located on the road from Lautenthal to Seesen.
