Engagement Island

Stamping point 116 / Engagement island in the Oker

Between huge boulders in the wild and romantic Oker Valley, the Engagement Island is located below the Oker Dam, directly on one of the most beautiful whitewater stretches in Germany.

Engagement Island

The Oker dam and the Romkerhall waterfall are located above Verlobungsinsel. The water from the River Romke plunges over the artificial waterfall, which is around 70 m deep, and then flows into the River Oker. You can watch this spectacle from a viewing platform. In winter, the waterfall freezes into an impressive work of ice art that attracts ice climbers from all over Germany.

Engagement Island becomes a magical place when the sun shines, a lot of water is released from the Oker dam and the canoeists are out in the white water.

From the Romkerhalle parking lot below the hydroelectric power station, follow the signposted, stony path downstream and cross a wooden bridge to Verlobungsinsel.

Es bietet sich an, nach dieser kleinen Wanderung zunächst den Romkerhaller Wasserfall zu bestaunen und die Tour dann zum Kästehaus HWN 118 und zum Treppenstein HWN 117 fortzusetzen.
