Experience nature on the paths of German emperors and kings
The Kaiserweg begins on the Burgberg in Bad Harzburg and leads over the Hopfensäcke, two granite cliffs typical of the Harz region, via Oderbrück to the Königskrug, from there to the Kapellenfleck and over the Helenenruh to the Cistercian monastery of Walkenried. From there, the trail heads east and joins up with the Karstwanderweg trail. You pass the border with Thuringia and via Juliushütte, Ellrich and the Mittelbau Dora concentration camp memorial you reach the northern Thuringian town of Nordhausen. There was a royal court here in the Middle Ages, which was frequently visited by German kings until the late Hohenstaufen dynasty. The route then runs from Nordhausen via Heringen and Hamma to Badraer Schweiz, whose mountains offer a wonderful view of the Harz Mountains. The route then leads over the Kyffhäuser to Tilleda in Saxony-Anhalt, where it ends at the royal palace there.
