Stamping point 196 / Bremer Teich

The Bremer Teich is located southwest of Gernrode, between the Sternhaus and the Viktorshöhe.

The pond was built by the counts of Anhalt, who commissioned the engineer Bremer to construct a reservoir in 1796. This pond was intended to facilitate deer hunting, which is why it was initially given the name „Hirschteich“ (deer pond). The pond and stream were later renamed „Bremer Pond“ and „Bremer Ditch“ in memory of the builder.

The Bremer Teich has been used for tourism since 1956 when a youth hostel was built. Since then, the Bremer Teich has developed into a popular local recreation area.
Since 1990, the Bremer Teich has developed into the international campsite „Harz-Camp“ with a capacity of 160 campers, 15 rustically furnished vacation homes and a guarded 4‑hectare bathing area.

Access to the campsite is from the former Haferfeld forester’s lodge, which is located on the country road between Gernrode and Mägdesprung. From the stamping point at the dam of the Bremer Teich pond, you can take a nice circular walk to the bear monument HWN 184, continue along the Bärweg trail to the Bergrat Müller pond HWN 190 and from there via the Große Teufels-Mühle mill HWN 189 back to the Bremer Teich pond.
