Stamping point 30 / Ilsestein

The Ilsestein (520 m above sea level) is a rock formation high above the Ilse valley not far from the national park town of Ilsenburg.

Count Anton zu Stolberg-Wernigerode had an iron cross erected on the summit in memory of his comrades who died in the wars of liberation. The Ilsestein is a great vantage point with views over the Ils valley and to the Brocken.

The hiking parking lots in the Ilse valley are recommended as the starting point for a tour to the Ilsestein. From there, follow the signposted paths along the River Ilse for a while before the path to the Ilsestein branches off. There are around 200 meters of ascent to overcome on the steadily ascending path. A worthwhile destination is to continue the hike to the Plessenburg inn HWN 7.
