The Thumkulental valley is located at the end of the Wernigerode district of Hasserode on the right-hand side of the road to Drei Annen Hohne.

The Thumkuhlental valley was used for mining until the 18th century. Cobalt, copper, silver and lead in particular were mined here. On the natural history and geology trail, which leads past old tunnel entrances, display boards provide an insight into the mining history of the Hasserode mining district. A waterworks with water wheel, field rods and pump tower has also been faithfully constructed there, where the stamp box is located.
The best starting point for a hike through the Thumkulental valley is the hiking parking lot at the Lossen monument directly on the road to Drei Annen Hohne.
It was erected in 1896 in honor of the famous Harz geologist KARL AUGUST LOSSEN. The material of the granite obelisk comes from the nearby Leistenklippen. The columns surrounding the pedestal are made of Harz rocks.
